Mahakal Mandir is also known as Mahakaleshwar temple is situated in city of Ujjain and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingam in India.Mahakal Mandir is situated near holi river Shipra. What is very unique about Mahakaleshwar mandir is,Lord Shiv known to be dakshinamukhi, which means that it is facing the south.The Mahakaleshwar temple is a three-storied structure. The Lingam of Mahakaleshwar is worshipped on the first floor, which is actually under the ground level. On the second level, the Lingam of Omkareshwara is worshipped. The Nagachandeshwara Linga is worshipped on the third level. The third level is open to the public only on Naga Panchami.Devotees are not allowed to bring bags , mobile phones and cameras during the visit . Lockers and Cloak Rooms are there for devotees where they can keep their belongings.Worshipping the Mahakaal at sanctorum is possible ,couple tickets are available at 1500/

The Mahakaleshwar temple is also one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas. Shakti Peethas are the sites where body parts of Sati Devi fell after the Sudarshana Chakra, in the Daksha Yoga episode of Hindu mythology, cut her body. Devotees believe that the Upper Lip of the Sati Devi fell here. Moreover, the Goddess is popular as Mahakali here.

How to reach Ujjain Mahakal Mandir

Ujjain is very well connected by train from all over India.Ujjain is connected to all major railway stations in India. Trains run from Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhopal, Jaipur, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jammu and many major cities .Indore is nearest Airport , I reached Indore from Delhi Indigo flight and reached Mahakal Mandir in one and half hour by road and did darshan straight away.There are other flights are also available

Mahakaleshwar temple timings

 Mahakaleshwar Temple opens to the people since 4 in the morning as Jagar before sunrise is performed up to Bhasmarti.
Aarti in evening as well as Pooja in morning, Mid-day and at the evening time also performed by the Purohits and main Pujaris. losing time is 11 o’ clock at night.

Timing of Bhasam Arti is 4 am to 6 am.Prior booking for arti is must as limited people can go inside at a time.On line booking can be done on offical site of Shri Mahakaleshwar .While doing online booking one must upload his photo and ID card. Bhasam Arti booking can be done off line too by visiting the Aarti Counter at the Mahakaleshwar Mandir but a day before and timings for this is 10 am to 3 pm.Only 300 coupons are given each day for next day darshan.After booking devotees will receive confirmation sms.Entire procure of booking is availble on official site.To witness Bhasm Aarti Men has to wear Dhoti and the ladies to wear Saree.

 

 

 

Kal Bhairav Temple, Ujjain

It is considered important to have darshan of Kal Bhairav before darshan of Mahakaleshwar temple.This temple is located on the banks of Shipra temple.Kal Bhairav Temple Timing is 05:00 am – 09:30 pm.

It is always better to have darshan of another jyotirlingam Omkareshwar ,which is 140 Km from Ujjain and 70 Km from Indore.I left for Omkareshwar after darshan at Mahakal Mandir.Please read my journey to Omkareshwar mandir .
